The biggest art event in the Middle East, RACHANA International Symposium, organized by the sculptor Alfred Basbous, is taking place at the mountain village of RACHANA to the north of Beirut from August 28 to September 12 1998.
For the 5th year in a row, RACHANA is receiving 8 international sculptors from different corners of the world. Invited by Mr. Alfred Basbous, the event's originator and organizer, these artists will spend 2 weeks in Rachana working in the open air, creating original works of art to be eventually placed in the first contemporary art museum of it's kind in Lebanon: The Forum of Rachana.
Mr. Alfred Basbous, undoubtedly one of Lebanon's leading sculptors, has devoted his life to transforming his beloved town into a unique sculpture park, and giving it its due place on the map. The objective of the Forum is to create, alongside the works of Mr. Alfred Basbous, a permanent exhibition of the international sculptors' artwork.
The success of the 1994 forum has made it possible to transform it into an annual event. The patron of the first Forum was Mrs. Mona Hraoui Lebanon's first lady. |
